Gala Dinner, King’s College,
18 November 2017
At the beginning of the new academic year, we are happy to report that in the past academic year 2016-2017, with the diligent inputs of the Principal and staff, the Foundation was able to dispense for the first time more than $1 million in support of King’s College and our dear students. Broadly speaking, 4/10 went to equipment, 3/10 to student activities and scholarships, 1.5/10 to specific training (sports, music, language, etc.), 1.5/10 on manpower support to school. There is also money reserved specifically for the iconic fig tree.
King’s College is the “prestigious school for the peasant” 平民名校 in Western District, with a long history of helping families improve their lots through education, to which many of us could attest. A new cohort of students have just joined King’s College to face the challenges of life. The Foundation truly wishes to sustain the same level of support to King’s College so that all students would flourish irrespective of their family background. We invite you and dear alumni friends to enable us to achieve this objective by making donations to the Foundation. A reply slip is attached for this purpose.
We would take this opportunity to inform you that the Foundation will organize a Gala Dinner at King’s College at 7:00 pm, 18 November 2017. Dr. Patrick Poon, Chairman of the Foundation, has kindly offered to invite all alumni who donate $1,000 or more to the Gala Dinner at his personal expense. Furthermore, for every $10,000 of donation money received, he would invite one current student and one young alumnus to join the dinner, to have a conversation with senior alumni. We hope to connect different generations of alumni and to enable the aspirations and need of current students to be heard and understood.
Regarding the Gala Dinner, reception of guests will commence at 6:00 pm. A ceremony to unveil the plaque on 1st floor dedicated to major donors will take place at 6:30 pm. A couple of ex-teachers will give short classes on useful topics prior to the dinner, to let you re-live your class experience. Historical artifacts of King’s College will be on display for you to see. We have also re-created the “ancient” desk-chair set for you to try out or to figure whether you have grown in size. We promise that it would be an evening filled with fun.
By donating to the Foundation, you would be giving hope to young aspiring souls. Please give a minute to thinking about this possibility. Hope to see you at the Gala Dinner.
