Dear Fellow alumnus, students and friends,
I am deeply humbled to have been elected Chairman of the King’s College Education Foundation Limited (KCEdF). Since becoming a member of this Foundation more than 10 years ago, I have watched my predecessors work tirelessly on behalf of our Foundation and our School and I know that I have very big shoes to fill. I fully embrace the opportunity and I am genuinely excited about the future of this Foundation. King’s College has always cherished its motto, Meticulous thoughts, Diligent actions( 慎思篤行). Over the years, it has been a training ground for whole-person education for members of our community. “ Whole Person Development” is a progressive process through which the intellectual, physical, professional, psychological, social and spiritual capacities of an individual can be ho-listically enhanced. King’s also routinely organized and promoted cultural exchange programs for broadening students' horizons and enhancing their ability to meet various challenges. These activities not only enrich students' college life and experience, but also broaden their horizons and enable them to achieve lifelong learning. The School target to help each student discover and develop his potential fully and promote his development as a whole person by providing a balanced education in the moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic spheres and by providing a learning environment that is disciplined, stimulating and forward-looking.
We believe in students and teachers in King’s College. It’s as simple as that.
It must be fully recognized that the School’s achievements have been due to the hard work and dedication of successive generations of School Management Committee members, Principal, Assistant Principals, teachers and supporting staffs. We must take this opportunity of paying the highest and warmest tribute to them all. Over the past few years, our past Principal, Mr K C Tang and current Principal Ms Fiona Wong, has been an inspiring leader. He has transformed the School and has taken it to even greater heights. The School has achieved excellent academic results and has also attained distinction in various international science competitions, as well as in music, sports and other fields. More than ever before, the School can, with every justification, lay claim to its premier status. Statistics can demonstrate the School’s achievements, academically and in various activities. But they cannot show the true essence and spirit of an education at King’s College. The fundamental aim of the education here is to instill in our students high moral into Kingsians core values. These values are the everlasting hallmarks of the great education at this School. They form the immutable tradition on which the School is and should forever be based. In essence, a King’s education provides its students with wings and a moral compass. Wings which would enable each individual to fly as high as his determination and ability will take him. A moral compass which would enable each individual to distinguish clearly between right and wrong as he travels on life’s journey and faces life’s many challenges, with all its trials and tribulations. Even with modern technology, a computer cannot give answers to questions of principle, let alone the right answers. King’s College Education Foundation Limited has been committed to supporting the development of King’s College for over 10 years, and will continue to extend its full back up in the future. The Foundation is one of the approved charitable institutions under section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance in the Laws of Hong Kong. Each member of KCEdF has a role to play in keeping our Foundation vibrant and growing – the input you share with KCEdF is what is needed to do this. Your executive needs you and is depending on you for ideas, guidance, and participation. Let us do our very best to keep this King’s spirit thriving! The School has served the community well over the last 98 years by nurturing successive generations of inspiring leaders and responsible citizens. In the coming years and beyond, I have every expectation that it will continue to do so. We should face the future with renewed vigour. We should have every confidence that the School will go from strength to strength and that it will rise to meet the exciting challenges ahead as successfully as it has done in the past. Finally, I wish today's event a great success and all participants a very enjoyable experience. Thank you very much. In addition to continuing the excellent support initiated and continued throughout the years to King’s College, to increase the strength of the alumni and parent network, particularly as it relates to how alumni can use their experiences and positions in life to assist students and recent graduates will be one of my planned contributions to the Foundation. There are many ways for alumni to contribute and give back to our School. There are a variety of ways you can show appreciation and play a part in the continued success of King’s College, KCOBA and KCEdF. Wherever you are, at whatever stage of life you are in, there’s something here for you. The KCEdF Executive Committee and I encourage you to share and use this website as one of the ways to engage with the Foundation and maintain your personal connection to the King’s College, our Alma Mater. Thank you.
